Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the FriendFund application and website (the "Service") operated by FriendFund ("we," "us," or "our"). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms.
1. Eligibility
The initial recipient pilot is limited to up to ten approved adults aged 18 or older in the United States. Accepting a nomination or publishing a page does not guarantee approval to receive payments. Recipients must complete the required identity review and payment-provider onboarding.
2. Accounts
To access certain features of the Service, you must create an account. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You agree to notify us immediately of any unauthorized access.
3. Subscriptions and Payments
The checkout review identifies whether a payment is live or a sandbox test. Live checkout charges your payment method. Test payment details and identity test choices may only be used in sandbox flows.
New support payments include your selected recipient amount, a 5% FriendFund platform fee rounded to the nearest cent, and a separate payment fee. All three recur monthly. The payment fee is calculated using standard US domestic card processing (2.9% plus 30 cents) and recurring billing (0.7%), including processing on the fees themselves. Your full recipient amount goes to them; FriendFund absorbs additional payment and standard payout costs. The complete monthly total is shown before you authorize payment. Existing subscriptions retain their agreed pricing until you explicitly accept a change. Historical one-time tips do not recur.
Amount changes take effect at the next renewal without proration. Cancellation prevents future renewals and does not automatically refund completed payments. Closing a recipient’s fund stops future support; reopening does not restart canceled commitments. Provider processing, refunds, disputes and failed payouts can affect when funds become available or reach a recipient’s bank account.
Mailing an invitation is an optional, one-time purchase, separate from monthly support. Before checkout, we show the fixed total: estimated printing, postage and payment processing costs plus a 20% service fee, rounded to cents. We submit the letter only after payment is confirmed. If submission fails, or cancellation is confirmed before printing, we refund the letter payment. Once printing starts, the mailing payment is nonrefundable. Withdrawing an invitation revokes its code immediately but may not stop a letter already in production. Delivery estimates do not guarantee arrival or that a recipient reads the letter.
Standard payouts are free to recipients. Eligible US recipients may choose a faster payout to a supported bank account or debit card, usually within 30 minutes; arrival is not guaranteed. Before each request, we show the bank amount, provider fee, FriendFund fee, and total balance used. The provider fee uses Stripe’s standard 1% instant-payout rate and the 1.5% cost of collecting the fee, rounded to cents. FriendFund’s fee is 0.5% of the bank amount, capped at $1. By confirming, you authorize that exact fee to be deducted from your connected Stripe balance and the reviewed amount to be paid to your selected destination. Failed or canceled faster payouts receive a full fee refund once the provider confirms the outcome. We do not delay standard payouts to encourage faster payouts.
Saved payment methods
At checkout, you may choose to save your card with Stripe for future FriendFund support. Saving a card is optional. We can show that saved card when you support another person, but you must review the recipient, monthly total and fees and confirm each new commitment. Saving a card alone does not authorize new support or additional charges. Stripe may require additional verification. A card used for monthly support is retained by Stripe to process that authorized subscription, even if you do not save it for future checkouts. Change or cancel individual commitments from Support I give.
4. Prohibited Conduct
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any illegal purpose
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service or its systems
- Interfere with or disrupt the Service or its infrastructure
- Use automated means (bots, scrapers) to access the Service without permission
- Circumvent any rate limiting or security measures
5. Intellectual Property
The Service, including its design, features, and branding, is owned by us and protected by intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or reverse-engineer any part of the Service without our prior written consent.
6. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your account at any time, with or without cause, and with or without notice. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately. You may close your account through your profile. Closure hides your support page and starts cancellation of future support. Financial, security and audit records needed for unresolved obligations may be retained as described in our Privacy Policy.
7. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure.
8. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service, including but not limited to loss of data, revenue, or profits.
9. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated Terms on this page with a revised "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.
10. Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the jurisdiction in which we operate, without regard to conflict of law principles.
